Tallow

Why Tallow? Tallow is the ultimate moisturizer for a multitude of reasons. Its saturated fatty acid profile mimics the oils in our skin to enable rapid and maximum absorption. It contains bioavailable vitamins A, D, K, and E while most modern skincare contains synthetic versions of these vitamins. Skincare should not be synthetic! These vitamins, alongside oleic acid in tallow, serve as powerful antioxidants to protect the skin from oxidative stress and damage from free radicals, yielding glowing, youthful skin and enhancing our skin's ability to heal. Vitamin A in tallow can help increase collagen production and protect from the breakdown of collagen. Tallow is also antimicrobial thanks to palmitoleic acid, ensuring healthy skin. Is tallow time tested? Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans all developed their cosmetics using tallow. Tallow in skincare isn’t a new concept, it has been used for thousands of years.

Here at Holy Cow Tallow, we choose to source our tallow exclusively from the suet of regeneratively raised, 100% grass fed and grass finished cattle, hormone-free and vaccine-free, sourced exclusively from ranches in the USA because we seek to use the highest quality ingredients in our products. The quality of the tallow we use is of utmost importance. Cattle are meant to eat grass. Today, most commercially raised cattle are fed genetically modified, pesticide-laden grain and soy products (because it's more cost effective) exposing them to a biologically incompatible diet that makes them unhealthy - the result of which is a product that makes consumers unhealthy. The soil on a regenerative ranch contains a higher carbon content, more diverse microorganisms, and higher moisture retainment than a conventional ranch or commercial feedlot, yielding healthy grass with more nutrients for the cows. This nutrient rich grass makes for the best food a cow can consume, yielding happy, healthy cows. Regenerative agriculture is the secret of the past that has been previously hidden in plain sight.

Known as an extremely stable, nutrient rich, high-heat, and non-toxic cooking fat, tallow is the fat of choice for the highest quality meals. Not only is tallow safe to eat, but this nutrient-rich saturated fat is preferred by our bodies. Knowing that what goes on our skin absorbs into our bloodstream, we wouldn't put it on our skin if we couldn't safely eat it.

Unlike plant-based creams and lotions, our tallow balm only needs to be applied once a day. This is thanks to the compatibility of tallow with our skin, allowing maximum absorption and retention. Tallow is also extremely resistant to the drying-out effect from soaps, ensuring our skin stays moisturized all day.

Olive Oil

Organic Cold-Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil makes for the perfect side-kick in our tallow balm due to it's moisturizing properties that help improve skin's elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. This is thanks to vitamin E, antioxidants, and squalene and oleocanthal naturally occurring in olive oil. Inherently antimicrobial from oleuropein, olive oil is known to benefit the health of your skin. The anti-inflammatory properties contained in olive oil are thanks to oleanoic acid and maslinic acid which can help wound healing, reduce inflammation, aid in collagen production, and reduce puffiness and swelling. Olive oil can also act as a barrier to keep skin moisturized and reduce the amount of UV light that penetrates your skin!

Beeswax

Organic beeswax acts as a natural humectant, sealing in moisture for our skin and hair. Beeswax can also create a semi-occlusive barrier that helps prevent water loss and protects the skin and hair from environmental pollutants and harsh weather. This barrier is also breathable, allowing the skin and hair to regulate its moisture levels, making beeswax especially beneficial for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Beeswax can soothe and calm the skin, and help with itchiness and irritation. It contains vitamin A, which can help the skin regenerate and rehydrate. Beeswax also serves to keep hair styles intact and keep flyaway hairs at bay.

Raw Honey

Organic Raw Honey is never heated in our production process. Heating above 95F begins to degrade the compounds that provide beneficial properties to our bodies. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of raw honey can help reduce acne and breakouts by reducing the bacteria that causes pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. It can also help treat redness and inflammation associated with breakouts. Honey is known to hydrate dry skin and fight free radicals. The sticky nature of honey can gently remove dead surface skin cells, revealing new skin cells underneath. This exfoliation process helps our tallow balm be absorbed more efficiently. Honey can be a natural remedy for skin issues like eczema and psoriasis. Its antibacterial properties can help cleanse the skin and reduce inflammation, soothing redness, itchiness, and other associated symptoms. Raw honey can help promote the healing of scars and reduce redness. It also contains a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, which can reduce dark spots and brighten your complexion over time.

Amber Glass Containers

Our products are packaged exclusively in amber glass containers to protect the integrity of our products and prevent unnecessary exposure to known toxins, like bisphenols, contained in plastic containers. The amber glass reduces the amount of visible and ultraviolet light that penetrates the container, ensuring that the tallow, olive oil, and essential oils do not oxidize, break down, or lose their potency over time.
